La Plagne pre-season 2017/18 report

Pre-season snow conditions in La Plagne

featured in Snow report Author Stuart Hamilton, La Plagne Reporter Updated

Sunday night’s Supermoon cast a surreal glow over a snow-covered Paradiski as we meandered our way up the access road from Aime for the first time this season. Breaking through a thin veil of cloud at 1800m the mountains rolled out before us, glinting much brighter than they should under the weird, ethereal light. Considering we’re so early in the season, it was surprising to see just how much snow already covers the area.

Resort temperatures at night remain bitterly cold (as low as -15ºC to -20ºC) while daytimes have seen unbroken sunshine and a comparatively balmy +5ºC to +10º’C. This freeze/thaw effect is the perfect base-building weather, firming up the snow and freezing the ground below. Paradiski already has some of the deepest snow covers in the Alps with Belle Plagne recording 107cm, 83cm and 61cm at the top, mid and lower stations respectively.

Another storm cycle is set to arrive Friday and continue over the weekend, with longer-term forecasts suggesting considerable snowfall right up to the opening weekend of 16th-17th December. It’s the perfect pre-season cycle and should guarantee great conditions for anyone heading out in the week leading up to Christmas.
