A little more snow on Friday's forecast

A few patches of thin snow here & there, but great high up

Once again the pisteurs have been doing a top rate job in keeping the runs well maintained, covered and groomed especially considering the temperatures have been too warm for much snow cannon use.

It has to be said that some cracks are starting to show though and there’s a bit of mud creeping onto the pistes here and there. Some lower parts of the ski area are starting to look a little more brown than white and some off-piste areas are being used to supply snow onto the pistes, scraped off by piste bashers to freshen up the pistes.

This scraping and relocating of snow has kept the pistes in great condition for these peak weeks of ski holidays though and the majority of the pistes and lifts have been open. The lower villages have been accessible and it has to be said given the volume of skiers racing around the mountain, there’s been surprisingly little ice creeping in.

Let’s hope the piste crews can keep it together for another week because there’s very little snow coming our way at the moment, and it’s due to stay warm. Temperatures are staying around the 0 – 2 degree Celsius mark with the freezing level hanging around 2000m until Thursday. After that it takes a dive for the cold side overnight and we may even get a little fluttering of snow fall, fingers crossed again.

lots of snow in la plagne

The snow up high in La Plagne ski area is absolutely still beautiful. I spent last Saturday skiing at the glacier and let me tell you the conditions were truly stunning. Peak weeks also bring with them all the fun and games that La Plagne throw together for their busy times including bubble ball – literally people trying to play football whilst inside giant zorb balls. Torchlight descents occurred in all the major villages throughout the week and new this year was the Orange tower where adrenaline junkies could leap from a 6 metre or 10 metre high platform onto a giant airbag in Plagne Centre, excellent fun and surprisingly, free and with minimal queues.

This coming week it’s all about the Born To Be Show, a display of incredible ski skills alongside entertainment music, fireworks, fire eaters and more. The event takes place this Thursday evening on the Stade Olympic in Plagne Centre and is a family friendly event well worth watching. The commentary will all be in French but you don’t need the voice over to appreciate the torch lit skiing and range of mountain skills on display, there’s also a chance to win a car so cross those fingers once more.

Enjoy this last busy week in La Plagne, stick to the quiet times (early morning & lunchtimes) to avoid the crowds and keep an eye out for entertainment and events going on around the mountain.
