Dance like no one's watching!

The beginning of the end, Scotty’s end of season party, held on the final Wednesday après, featuring The Dominos and DJ Blitz and hosted by Oxygene it promised to be an absolutely epic event and it certainly did not let us down.

The party started at 1pm with a BBQ with the bar decked out in Oxygene blue and decorated with balloons and banners and Oxygene posters. The sun was out and the day was hot and the BBQ was in demand from the outset as everyone got into the spring feel and sat outside on the terrace chugging beers and swapping goggles for sunglasses and suncream. The band weren’t due to play until 5.30 so the crowds came and went, heading out on the mountain for a couple of runs then nipping back for a beer and a burger before heading out again.

Around about half four we downed boards and settled in for the duration, the skies had closed in completely and a chill had sprung up but Scotty’s stuck to their guns and set the band up outside as planned - a choice that paid off massively as we all got our beer jackets on and enjoyed the festival atmosphere.

The Dominoes have played every Wednesday après for the entire season and never fail to entertain, they play to a packed house every week, taking requests, calling members up from the crowd to guest spot, learning swiftly the songs we love and mixing up their set list from week to week. They are undoubtedly our favourite band, the seasonaires love them and the guests are amazed by the Wednesday afternoon madness that inevitably sweeps the bar each week. Putting the band outside this week put a fresh spin on the weekly party and ensured that the final après would be one to remember.

The temperature dropped but once the band started playing things warmed quickly enough, especially since one of their first songs was “Footloose” and just you try keeping still when that song comes on! I was up and dancing like a loon from the get go and it sure is the best way to stay warm. Having the band outside also attracted the attention of passers-by and the party soon expanded from the terrace onto the piste and reached the balconies of the hotel above as people grooved in their own private box with a birds eye view.

Alas all good things end and with a shout out to a wicked season, The Dominos left the stage around 8 o’clock with hugs all around for their favourite seasonaires and massive cheering from the crowd. Although it was still light, we got cold fast when we stopped moving and the crowds headed inside. Usually on a Wednesday 8 o’clock is when we all start to head home or onto other parties but not this week, Scotty’s had kept the party going by booking a DJ for the evening and Oxygene kept us entertained in the interim with a raffle which featured loads of Oxygene gear, t-shirts, hoodies and hats, an Osprey backpack, a pair of Dynastar Twin tip skis and a Nitro snowboard worth 400 Euros. Cheers Oxygene!

Unfortunately DJ Blitz was running late and didn’t get his act together until 10.30 which definitely killed the momentum slightly, and several people drifted off or took themselves home after one too many jaegers whilst waiting. He did redeem himself though kicking straight into an epic set list of mash ups, mixing songs from different genres and decades and really getting the crowd back up and dancing for the second time, through till closing.

An amazing party had by all and although it’s a travesty that the season’s drawing to a close and that there’s no band to rock out to next Wednesday, it has to be said that we’ve Apres’d in style, this season and we couldn’t have done it without Scotty’s bar, The Dominos and Oxygene Ski School.

Thanks for the parties guys; Wednesday’s will not be the same without you!
