Piste expansion plan in La Plagne

New piste expansion for La Plagne’s Montchavin sector

Resort officials in La Plagne have announced proposals to build a new piste in the Montchavin sector next season, linking the existing Pierres Blanches and Mont Blanc blue runs.

The new Myrtilles piste will cut through a wooded area, traversing under the Pierres Blanches chair and crossing the Les Murs black run before joining the Mont Blanc piste and beginners’ zone at the top of the Plan Bois and Lac Noir lifts. This is an area popular with novices but the existing run layout can make it difficult to get back to the Les Côches side.

The Myrtilles piste will be blue, around 1.2km in length with an average width of 11 metres. It will give beginners an easy option to link back to Les Côches from the Pierres Blanches trail. The construction will require clearing around 1.52 hectares of mainly forested area.

A planning application has been submitted with the environmental authorities but is expected to be successful due to the low ecological impact of the proposed piste.

The new trail marks La Plagne’s first expansion since 2010 when the Dérochoir black piste was built below the Bellecôte glacier. Previous to that, the last major development in the area was in 1999 with Les Mines above Plagne 1800 and Bois Croizelin in Montalbert.

Planning permission is expected by the end of the month with the new piste scheduled for operation in the 2017/18 season.
