How to make the most La Plagne

This year's calendar is full of long weekends in La Plagne

There is a rather different approach to national holidays here in France. They focus heavily on the date of the event, and don't bother which day of the week it falls on, resulting in a rather higgledy-piggledy selection of days off throughout the year.

Sadly for those of us here in La Plagne, 2016 was a disappointing year, with at least three of the national holidays falling on a Sunday, including Christmas and New Year! So no additional days off for us...

However, 2017 is looking much better already and we can look forward to at least six long weekends where we can travel around France and enjoy the festive atmosphere. The French also enjoy taking a longer four-day weekend if the holiday falls on a Tuesday or a Thursday, taking the Monday or the Friday off in what they call 'faire le pont' - making the bridge.

La Plagne will have plenty to offer on these long weekends with events being hosted, restaurants and bars offering special seasonal menus and many hotels offering good deals for the long weekend breaks. The days to look out for in 2017 are as follows - Easter Monday: Monday 17th April , Labor Day: Monday1st May, Victory in Europe Day (end of WWII): Monday8th May, Ascension Day: Thursday 25th May, Pentecost: Monday 5th June, Bastille Day: Friday 14th July, Assumption Day: Tuesday 15th August, All Saints' Day: Wednesday 1st November and Remembrance Day: Saturday 11th November.
