Chalet de la Roche Restaurant Review

Good Value Lunch Spot with Sunny Terrace, Accessible on Foot

featured in Restaurant reviews Author Matt Hein, Ski Editor Updated

I turned up late for lunch knowing that during half term you avoid the 12 til 2pm slot. I was surrounded by mix of English and French families, and couples of all ages. What was clear was the smiles on everyones faces here, and with the glorious sunshine and good food it's clear to see why.

Whether holidaying in La Roche or any of the other La Plagne villages I'd recommend popping by here on a sunny day whether for tanning, coffee or good value and tasty lunch.

The service was amongst friendliest I've experienced yet in the Alps and really made me and the tables around me smile. The waiter even laid an extra space opposite me for lunch saying that some nice young lady would surely come along and join me for a drink! Alas she never showed but I'm certainly not criticizing the restaurant for that!

The lunchtime menu was good value: Plat du jour or Fresh pasta choice plus dessert for 16.50 euros - bargain! The plat du jour was Bavette (beef), chips and salad, which was 13 euros without dessert.

The tarte tatin as the dessert du jour was so tempting, but due to time constrictions and my self imposed diet (in light of all my restaurant reviews of late) I had to pass on it. From the look of contentment on the English couples faces, and the fact they were almost coming to blows over the last few spoonfuls, I deduced it must be pretty special!

There's an outside terrace for 100 odd people, which is glorious in the sunshine. Located at bottom of la Roche 6 man chair, and next to a large car park, this ensures that people who don't ski in your group can pop down and join you.
