What's New in La Plagne?

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed the a shiny new wooden chalet with two rather large silver flues at the entrance to La Plagne centre. This is actually the new eco-friendly boilerhouse for the commune.

To be officially inaugurated on the 12th December, the new biomass boiler house replaces the old fuel-fired communal heater which was in the Aconcagua residence. This new system will be 85% fuelled by burning wood pallets, backed up by fuel to be able to deal with high-peak demand.

At the time the apartments and businesses in the Plagne Centre were built, a communal fuel system was the most economical way of providing heating. Since then, ideas have changed and the over the last seven years the project to use a more sustainable fuel source and to physically move the boiler from inside the residences was planned, proposed and now finally completed.

In total, 50 buildings, 90 businesses and 1500 apartments will be supplied hot water and heating via this new biomass boilerhouse.

Together with initiatives to renovate and insulate the buildings in Plagne Centre, this much-welcomed biomass heating system is a hugely innovative step for the ski resort.
