Disabled Skiing in La Plagne
La Plagne is one of the best resorts in the Alps for people with disabilities who wish to enjoy the thrills of the mountains. Time-honoured devices such as the Uniski are a frequent sight on the slopes and the Skicart offers a gentle introduction to skiing.
La Plagne is also at the forefront of new technologies such as the Vertiski, a medical support that enables you to stand upright whilst ensuring good circulation, and the GMS which is the latest in chairs and can be used with the help of a guide or independently. For those who already have some experience of snowsports there is the Xbefree, which is a seated vehicle that can be used for completely independent skiing.
Extra training qualifications to enable ski instructors to understand the needs of disabled skiers are becoming increasingly common and accompanied skiing is now on offer in La Plagne. This is aimed at people who are physically able but may have a sight impairment, balance problem, mental illness, or something else which means that they require extra guidance to ensure their safety and enjoyment.
Aime 2000 is entirely accessible to wheel chair users and those with mobility problems, both in resort and on the pistes. All residences and shopping areas are equipped with ramps, all public toilets are adapted and all car parks feature ample disabled parking spaces. All gondolas, chairlifts and drag lifts in the La Plagne ski resort have been adapted to allow handiski access (assistance may be required from a ski instructor or guide).
