On Friday last week heads of 35 ski resorts in the Savoie region handed over a cheque for 1,175 million euros to the Savoie Ski Committee.

The money (and logistical assistance the ski resorts are also offering) is going to help support local skiing & snowboarding clubs and individuals, to develop and encourage local talent in the disciplines of Snowboarding, telemark, Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and freestyle skiing and snowboarding.

The logistical assistance will be seen in the form of better training facilities, preparation of pistes and courses and the best coaching possible throughout the area.

The ski resorts have signed an ongoing annual agreement to support the cause and it's hoped that the region will be able to produce more sports stars of the future as a result.
